Gold Stars Lesson 12

Gold Stars Lesson #12

When you sing together in class, both your body and brain are benefiting from the activity! Singing with others can calm heart rate, boost the immune system, and increase pain tolerance. It also releases feel-good neurochemicals that can boost mood, and reduce depression and stress.

Singing and musical games are universal. In fact:

• There is no human culture, no matter how remote or isolated, that does not sing!
• Group singing is understood to be the primary form of the early human musical activity.
• Singing games are a part of the musical folklore of countries all around the world. In fact, even countries with diverse cultures have similarities between their traditional singing games!
• The cooperative nature of singing games means they promote a sense of community

Fun Fact: The hearts of people who sing together have been known to beat in unison.

Optional home fun activity: Do the gold ring activity on page 23 of your workbook

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
